Building Bamboo Raft Temenggor Lake Malaysia

After having breakfast on a beautiful Saturday morning, on an isolated island by the Tasik Temenggor lake, the natives from the Jahai tribe arrived to our island by boats. We were going to build a raft. The organizer of the camping trip arranged a team of natives to help us chop some bamboos and to teach us how to build a raft.

Nice lake and nice boats...

As you could see from the picture above, the dead trees lining the banks of the lake used to be a forest. The Temenggor lake was once a valley before the flood happened. There's an underwater valley of sunken villages drown and buried beneath the lake caused by the construction of the Temenggor Hydroelectric Dam.

We were camping on one of the islands at the lake. There were more than 80 small islands on Tasik Temenggor lake.

Crossing the river, we were led by the natives, hiked up a nearby hill near to our camping ground on the island to cut down some bamboo trees for the raft.

After some steep and slippery hiking caused by yesterday's rain, we arrived at a section of the island's hill full of bamboos. We watched while the Jahai tribe natives helped us chopped the bamboos.

Candid camera time Y(^o^ ) yay! I'm doing nothing...these bamboos are as tall as a two storey house. I just stand aside and watch the natives did their job. They're good at cutting down bamboo trees.

These bamboos were brought down the hill to the lower ground near the lake by the Jahai tribe natives and we were given chances to chop the bamboos with our parang, saws or knifes.

These bamboos are thick..while we were figuring out how to chop the bamboo with a knife, our friend came over to teach us how to properly chop a bamboo

After some guidance ,  the job is done. Finally can rest...I'm holding the video camera all the time ...my stamina is just enough to hold camera but not to chop a bamboo (^ ^)/

The Jahai tribe natives of the Temenggor Lake helped us to tie our rafts. They built two rafts for us.

The Jahai tribe natives showed us the proper way to tie a raft and we were given chances to try tying the bamboos together to make a raft.

The raft is done! finally it's time to do some rafting at the Temenggor lake.

Suddenly the sky started to get dark and gloomy...in the afternoon. The weather....

It started to rain....right after we were done building the rafts ><.

There was a sudden heavy downpour while we were pulling the rafts to the bank of the lake. We quickly rush back to our campsite for shelter while some of us continue rafting in the rain.

Back at my campsite, I watched them having fun rafting in the rain that afternoon.

It had been raining on and off since yesterday and I was almost out of dry clothes. While waiting for the rain to stop so that i could raft,. we started to prepare lunch before going to the waterfall to bath.

It didn't rain for long, it stopped. I'm getting sick of these on and off rain on the 3 consecutive days of my camping trip.
