There's a reason why abalone is a popular dish during the Chinese New Year reunion dinner
bao= assurance , yu = surplus
Abalone in chinese new year cuisine has a symbolic meaning of "surplus assurance of good fortune in the year ahead".
It doesn't mean u will get assurance of good fortune, the name of the abalone indicates good blessings.
