Chinese New Year Sunway Pyramid

Chinese New Year artificial horse display for the year of horse 2014 at Sunway Pyramid.

The mall display artificial horses for kids and adult to ride on.. Sitting infront of the Mongolian tent. The entrance not open yet there's some traditional chinese culture decoration inside.

The faux fur looks so real even the horse's eyes too. Got on the back of this black and white horse.
There are more than 3 or 4 horses displayed at different hall of the shopping mall.
They made wooden stairs for us to reach the horse.

Ancient Chinese horse cart. Artificial flowers and plum blossoms tree at the background.

Lunchtime ʕ̡̢̡*✪௰✪ૢʔ̢̡̢

Jägerschnitzel (mashpotatoes, pork loin steak with mushroom sauce & bacon) at Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant

Took something light...avoiding fried food for lunch and french fries. Every Chinese New Year there's too much snacks and fried crackers and fried food at home. Can't help my mouth keep munching non stop and gained some weight too.

River Walk at Kinta Riverfront in Ipoh, Perak

The Riverfront Bridge at Kinta Riverfront Walk in Ipoh.

The Riverwalk at Kinta Riverfront is located at the opposite road of Great Miner Chinese Cuisine Restaurant and Kinta Riverfront Hotel & Suites in Ipoh. Riverfront is a tourist attraction in Ipoh.

Attractions and Things to do at Kinta Riverfront :
☻ visit the tin mining museum exhibition room displaying the history of tin mining industry in Perak.
☻ relax
☻ stroll along the river and bridge
☻ dining at the cafes, restaurants and food stalls along the river
☻ cycling (you can rent bicycles and 3 seater tandem bicycles)
☻ shopping at the night markets along the river

Palong for tin mining (the photo is taken at night so it's not a clear picture)

There's a tin mining museum exhibition room at Riverfront displaying the history, historical pictures, and mining tools used by the miners in Perak during the tin-mining era. Perak was once a state actively involved in the tin mining industry. They even rebuild a palong (sluice to wash ore and retrieve tin ore) outdoor to show visitors about the tools used during the tin mining era in Perak.

The night view of the river walk at Kinta Riverfront in Ipoh.

Along the river you could see a long stretch of neon led light trees and colorful tents of the stalls selling food, flowers etc. I visited Riverfront during the Chinese New Year therefore there are plenty of stalls selling Chinese New Year seasonal flowers that night.

乳茄 ru qie (Solanum mammosum / Titty Fruits) attached to branches
and a variety of golden yellow and orange potted chrysanthemums, etc..

The Solanum mammosum / Titty fruit is a non edible auspicious fruit as an ornament to put in the house during the Chinese New Year. The yellow and orange Chrysanthemum sold in the night market is an auspicious flower symbolizes joy and optimism for the new year.

The picture above is a  view of a long stretch of flower stalls selling Chinese New Year plants during the new year at the Kinta Riverfront.

Great Miner Chinese Cuisine - Riverfront, Ipoh, Perak.

鱼生 yúshēng is a raw fish salad at Great Miner Chinese Cuisine Restaurant in Ipoh

Yu Sheng / Yu Sang is a popular dish during Chinese New Year in Malaysia.
The name of the raw fish salad Yúshēng (鱼生= raw fish) is a homophone for Yúshēng (余升 = increase in abundance). Therefore, it's a tradition to mix and toss the raw fish salad during Chinese New Year reunion feast. It is believed the more and higher you toss, the better your fortune and luck will be.

Yusheng / Lou Sang ( raw fish salad prosperity toss)

The plate is nicely decorated with a yellow dragon head and a dragon tail. The raw fish is mixed with crunchy crackers, crushed peanuts, sesame seeds, plum sauce, oil, and a variety of shredded vegetables like radish, carrots etc.. The picture above is before we started the prosperity toss for the new year. The salad is messy after tossing.

Black Moss cooked with a variety of mushrooms, button mushroom, braised oyster and broccoli.

The black moss or black hair moss is a dried vegetable that resembles hair harvested from the desert. Black moss is an auspicious food represent the wish for a prosperous new year during new year feast. The pronunciation {"Fa Cai" = black moss) in mandarin is a homophone for ("Fa Cai" = Be Prosperous) .

Shark fin soup

The fins has a hardened jelly-like stringy, sinewy texture which is tasteless. The soup is a smooth starchy soup cooked with crab meat, shark fins etc... We were given a bowl of vinegar by the waitress. It's optional to mix vinegar into your soup.

My bowl of shark fin soup mixed with vinegar.
There's not much fins in the soup. I could see more crab meat than fins. Fins ..fins..where are you?!
Anyway, the soup is very smooth with lots of crab meat.

There's a river with a nicely decorated bridge and markets along the river opposite the Great Miner Chinese Cuisine Restaurant & Kinta Riverfront Hotel & Suites . After the meal, we went to markets near the river in Riverfront, Ipoh, Perak for shopping. The river has a spectacular view at night but it's a little stinky.
Not recommended to visit the river during the day because all you could see is a plain yellow river during day time.

Braised Abalone for Chinese New Year

Mom preparing abalone 鲍鱼(bao yu) for family reunion dinner.ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ
There's a reason why abalone is a popular dish during the Chinese New Year reunion dinner
bao= assurance , yu = surplus
Abalone in chinese new year cuisine has a symbolic meaning of "surplus assurance of good fortune in the year ahead".
It doesn't mean u will get assurance of good fortune, the name of the abalone indicates good blessings.

Braised Abalone with Chinese broccoli (Kai Lan) vegetable.

The name of the Chinese broccoli has a symbolic meaning of long life, it's often served on the table indicating blessings of long life for parents.

Chinese New Year Family Reunion Dinner 2013 on Chinese New Year Eve
Pic above: Prawns with wine & ginger, soy sauce chicken, braised abalone with chinese broccoli,
Fatt Choy (black moss) with mushrooms and soy sauce fish below.

Fatt Choy (black moss) is also a popular dish during Chinese New Year with a symbolic meaning of prosperity.

年年有鱼 nián nián yǒu yú (May There be Extra Fortune Every Year)
年 = year and 有= has 鱼=fish
The fish has a symbolic meaning of surplus that's why it's a must to have this dish during the family reunion dinner in most families who are celebrating chinese new year.

Mummy's home cooked version of abalone shark fin soup with crab meat, abalone, egg and vinegar to celebrate the new year

Chinese New Year & Red Lanterns Malaysia

帆船 Ancient China Wooden Sailing Ship & Red Lanterns at Sunway Pyramid mall.

It's not a sailing ship. The wooden ship is a stage with wooden stairs for visitors to take photos. The wooden bridge behind me is blocking the view of the ship  ʅʕ•ᴥ•ʔʃ

From Left : Ancient China boat (left), Wooden Bridge (middle), Ancient China Wooden Ship(Right)
built on top of a man made pond filled with water and koi fish.

They putted rocks surrounding the pond and decorated the pond with green plants in flower pots in the water. I saw they used plastic sheets underneath to trap the water in the artificial temporary pond.

Pond with Koi fish and plants in flower pots. There's a box of golden treasures in the pond ʕ´•ᴥ•`ʔσ”

Spinning the Ancient Chinese Sailing Ship captain's wheel

This ship is a little odd, there's pile of real mandarin oranges at the tail of the cargo ship. They even decorated the inside of the ships with gunny sacks and wooden boxes to look alike ancient cargos.
There's plenty of red lanterns on ship too as Chinese New Year decors.

Cute Chinese New Year Rice Ball

Mom made this for lunch during Chinese New Year.
Fried Rice Balls with smiley face. ^o^ cute!
Chinese Fried Rice Balls with minced pork and carrot,
Chinese waxed pork sausages "Lap Chang" (臘腸) and Run Chang (膶腸), waxed duck "Lap Ngap",
black moss "Fatt Choy" and green peas

We've waxed pork and duck every new year, I don't know why... =/
maybe some sort of tradition in my family....
The waxed duck and pork tasted like bacon but slightly salty than bacon.

Chinese New Year of Dragon

It's the Year of the Dragon!
Bright or Red is the best color to wear so that others wouldn't nag me when I visit my relative's house during the Chinese new year. Pink dress with red wordings wouldn't go wrong \(*T▽T*)/

My yellow bunny pillow behind ..ʕ●ᴥ●ʔฅ♪♪♪
